Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her father, who was a carnival barker, was killed when she was a small child, forcing her mother to help support the family by working as a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth was raised in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts in which she went to school. But she quit school in the span of two years to pursue an acting career. Her chosen path proved to be fraught with difficulties such as In New York, she obtained the opportunity to pose as stills in a magazine for crime, but theatrical work eluded her.
